The Big Question:

Wall Street Reform?

Former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer says the new wave of banking laws proposed by Congress amount to little more than a "regulatory charade." He argues that all of the mechanisms were already in place to avoid the financial crisis, and that regulators failed to use the power they already had. Meanwhile, Nobel Prize economist Joseph Stiglitz goes further in calling for regulation. He rejects Adam Smith's Invisible Hand theory and takes Alan Greenspan and others to task for arguing that unfettered markets lead to efficient outcomes.

The Big Question:
Toys or Weapons?

As someone who has worked for both toy companies and the military, Ralph Osterhout describes the relationship between the two as perverse and symbiotic. His evidence: kids' night vision goggles, remote control cars, and robots. Meanwhile, WIRED's Chris Anderson and a community of enthusiasts have taken the unmanned aerial vehicle (a plaything and a weapon)  in a different direction, utilizing it as a platform for low-cost, high-performance, open source innovation.
